Our Story

Hi, I’m Emilie — the heart and hands behind Flock and Friends.

Some of my earliest memories are of watching my grandmothers knit, their needles clicking away as yarn flowed between their fingers. But my own knitting journey didn’t truly begin until my early 30s, when I was living in Vancouver. The rainy, grey winters felt endless, and I needed a hobby to brighten the days. I decided to give knitting another try — and it was love at first stitch.

I started the old-fashioned way, borrowing a few knitting books from the library (this was before I discovered Ravelry!) and picking up some inexpensive acrylic yarn. My first creations were shapeless scarves and oversized jumpers, but as my skills grew, so did my appetite for more challenging patterns. Soon, I was completely hooked.

That’s when I discovered natural fibres — especially wool. I fell head over heels. I could spend hours in yarn shops, happily patting skeins and dreaming of what they might become (I know you all know what I mean!). Over time, I explored different wools from a variety of fibre companies, and my passion only deepened.

During my maternity leave, with my job situation feeling uncertain, I asked myself a simple question: If you could do anything, what would it be? The answer came instantly — share my love for fibre and wool. So I began researching suppliers across the UK and Ireland, and from that dream, Flock and Friends was born.
