Meet Starling

100% pure, non-superwash wool, spun and dyed in Donegal, Ireland, then lovingly hand-skeined by us here in Switzerland.

We created Starling because we wanted a yarn with character — honest, rustic and beautifully woolly, with the natural qualities of the fibre left intact.

Why we love non-superwash

We choose natural, minimally processed fibres whenever we can.

That means many of our wool yarns aren't coated with the treatment traditionally used to make wool machine-washable.

The result? Yarn that keeps more of the natural character of the fibre, its texture, warmth and personality.

Before we welcome a new yarn to Flock & Friends, we put it through its paces, because we want to love the yarn ourselves before we ask you to love it too.

We focus on suppliers based in Europe whenever possible, looking for people who share our values around quality, thoughtful treatment of animals and responsible production.

Every yarn we choose has to meet our standards for quality, feel and the story behind the skein.
