Flock & Friends Advent Calendar day 24 - Brioche Intarsia Bandana by Anna Husemann
Day 24 of the Flock & Friends Advent Calendar! 🎄✨
Our final pattern inspiration of the Advent Calendar is the Brioche Intarsia Bandana by Anna Husemann, a small triangular scarf that beautifully combines brioche knitting with the intarsia technique to create bold, abstract, graphic shapes. A fitting and exciting challenge to close the calendar!
I absolutely love brioche: I find it incredibly relaxing to knit and wonderfully cosy to wear. Intarsia, on the other hand, is still on my list of techniques to explore and this stunning pattern has definitely earned a place on my future project list.
The bandana is knitted point to point and shaped along the right side only, with increases followed by decreases worked every 8th brioche knit row. Despite the complexity of combining brioche and intarsia, the pattern includes clever tips and tricks to preserve the reversible nature of brioche, ensuring the wrong side remains almost as neat and beautiful as the right. Step-by-step instructions guide you through the process, making this ambitious technique combination as approachable as possible.

🧶💛 Yarn recommendation:
The pattern uses 8 colours in total, with two main colours requiring 53g (MC) and 34g (CC1). The remaining six colours use only 4–8g each, making this an ideal project for using up leftovers.
For the main colours, I’d suggest two options with Appledore DK by John Arbon Textiles:
A vibrant version using Golden Knob (3) and Tom Putt (4)
A palette closer to the original sample with Slack ma Girdle (1) and Billy Down Pippin (2)
For the six contrast colours, leftover yarns are perfect, as only small amounts are needed.
