Flock & Friends Advent Calendar day 1 - Sophie Hood by PetiteKnit

Flock & Friends Advent Calendar day 1 - Sophie Hood by PetiteKnit

I’m a big fan of Christmas and especially the magical weeks leading up to it. I’ve always had multiple advent calendars and love preparing special ones for the people I care about.

This year, I thought it would be fun to bring that tradition to my website and social media! Every day throughout December, I’ll share some knitting inspiration, something you can make as a gift for yourself, for someone special, or simply something to add to your ever-growing “to-knit” list. Each pattern will come with a yarn recommendation available in the shop, chosen because I’d truly love to knit it myself.

We’re starting this advent adventure with a very well-known pattern: the Sophie Hood by PetiteKnit. I know it’s a popular one, and I promise that not all patterns will be as familiar, but this hood has been on my own wish list for a very long time. I just love how cozy and practical it looks, and I can already see it becoming one of my most-worn winter pieces. The hood is worked in one piece from tip to tip in garter stitch with built-in i-cord edges, shaped through gentle increases and decreases, and finished with the back sewn together using mattress stitch.

The pattern calls for a worsted-weight yarn, so I’ve chosen Yarnadelic Sport by John Arbon Textiles held double. Yarnadelic is spun from 100% Falklands Corriedale (non-superwash), a wonderfully soft yet bouncy fibre with a subtle natural lustre. The rounded 3-ply structure gives fantastic stitch definition and each shade is inspired by a favourite song from the John Arbon team’s eclectic playlist.

Here are the three colours I’m considering:

  1. Galleta Guitar
  2. Black Gold
  3. Harmonium

I can’t quite decide which one to choose, although I have a soft spot for the deep, vibrant green of Harmonium. Have you knitted the Sophie Hood already? If so, which colour did you pick for yours?

You can find the pattern here on Ravelry.
