The Midland Cardigan by Laura Penrose is a modern, oversized cardigan with a beautifully relaxed silhouette and thoughtful construction. Worked seamlessly from side to side, it features gently tapered shaping and a slightly cropped length that sits between the natural waist and the hips, making it a versatile layering piece you'll reach for throughout the year.

Designed with comfort and effortless style in mind, the cardigan showcases beautiful texture and clean lines. Laura's sample, knitted in Appledore DK in the colour Golden Knob, highlights the stunning stitch definition and rustic character of this British wool.

The cardigan is knitted seamlessly using a combination of flat and circular knitting techniques. The pattern includes short rows, a double-knit button band, and carefully shaped details, making it an enjoyable project for knitters looking to expand their skills.

Always make sure to gauge swatch to ensure your cardigan fits and you like the fabric you’ve created. Unlike most patterns, your stitch gauge will dictate the length of your cardigan and your row gauge will dictate the width (except the sleeves). There is not a lot of room for adjustment so make sure you match the gauge.

The yarns used are very light and bloom when washed so try and use a yarn that has a similar fibre content and the same or similar meterage per 100g. Superwash treated yarns are not recommended as they don’t have the stability to support the structure of this garment. A high wool content is advised. Amounts given include contingency.
