33% Bluefaced Leicester / 33% Falklands Merino / 33% Zwartbles (non-superwash)

Inspired by the soft, shifting tones of autumn in the Devon landscape, John Arbon Textiles blended the super-saturated hues of dyed Falklands Merino and lustrous Bluefaced Leicester with the naturally dark fibre of Devon-farmed Zwartbles. The result is Harvest Hues, a yarn full of complex, mottled shades that capture the depth and richness of the season.

The soft-as-a-cloud Merino, elegant Bluefaced Leicester, and bouncy Zwartbles complement each other perfectly, producing a delicate woolly halo, a full-bodied texture, and a beautiful balance of softness, bounce, and shine.

In its 4ply form, Harvest Hues is a 2-fold yarn that creates drapey fabrics with elegance while still holding structure for cables and textured stitches—making it ideal for shawls, garments, and accessories. With a palette inspired by autumn’s striking colours, there’s a shade to gladden every maker’s heart.

Fibre Characteristics

Bluefaced Leicester: This is one of the most popular British breeds– and rightly so! This fibre has a wonderful balance of drape and durability, with just a little woolly bounce. Micron:28; Average Staple Length: 9cm/3.5”

Falklands Merino: The softest sheep breed, ideal for next-to-skin wear. Wonderfully bouncy with dense structure. Our Merino is farmed in the Falkland Islands – ensuring that the animals have been treated with the utmost care and are free from harmful mulesing. Micron: 23; Average Staple Length: 11.5/4.5”

Zwartbles: The breed originates from Friesland in The Netherlands, but is now widely farmed across Exmoor. They are a naturally dark brown sheep with distinctive white accents on their face, legs and tails. The fibre is voluminous and incredibly bouncy, when added to a blend it creates a wonderful depth of tone. Micron: 35; Average Staple Length:9cm/3.5”

Care Instructions

John Arbon Textiles recommends that all yarns are gently washed before use, as no washing or conditioning is carried out after the yarns are spun and skeined. A simple soak allows the fibres to bloom beautifully and gives a much clearer sense of the gauge and character of the yarn over time.

Once a piece is finished, John Arbon Textiles suggests giving it another hand wash before wet blocking to the given dimensions. This process sets the stitches and ensures the garment looks its very best.
