Flock & Friends Advent Calendar day 16 - Frida from Emilie Luis

Flock & Friends Advent Calendar day 16 - Frida from Emilie Luis

Day 16 of the Flock & Friends Advent Calendar! 🎄✨

Today’s pattern is the Frida Headband by Emilie Luis, a design I’ve already knitted before and absolutely love. It’s a free, simple pattern that looks beautifully polished once finished and it makes a perfect handmade Christmas gift.

This headband is a great accessory for using up leftover yarn, as you only need around 30 g / 70 m of DK-weight yarn (you may need a little more if you choose an Aran-weight yarn). The instructions are written for a double stockinette version and include a YouTube video for the stick and a photo tutorial to guide you through creating the top crossover. That said, the pattern is very flexible and works just as well with other stitch patterns.

What I really love about this design is the endless possibility for customisation. From stitch choices like brioche or ribbing to the yarn you select, you can create very different versions from the same pattern.

For this version, I’d recommend using an Aran-weight yarn, with a small adjustment to the pattern. My pick is the Fable Brushed Aran by West Yorkshire Spinners in Elder(1), Faun(2), Oak(3) or Siren(4). The Fable is soft, warm, and elegant, it would make this headband especially cosy and luxurious.

You can find the pattern here on Ravelry.
